LAGUNA, Philippines — Four members of the Calamba police accused of kidnapping and illegally detaining two alleged drug suspects have pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against them.
Capt. Joseph Natividad, S/Sgt. France Male, Cpl. Gerald Casanova and Pat. Rudy Burda of the Calamba police intelligence unit were accompanied by their legal counsel during the arraignment proceedings on Thursday afternoon.
Relatives of the missing drug suspects, Diolito Garay and Aldy Raquion, also attended the arraignment. They were accompanied by Owen de Luna, chief of the National Police Commission-Calabarzon.
De Luna said the respondents were positively identified by witnesses and families of the missing drug suspects in a police lineup.
Garay’s daughter Joy said the first hearing of the case was set on Nov. 20. She said the accused filed motions for transfer of custody and for bail.
Natividad, Male and Casanova were reportedly arrested and placed in the custody of the regional police personnel and holding management office.
Burda reportedly surrendered to Lt. Col. Titoy Cudenyabby, Calamba police chief.
