MANILA, Philippines —   It was the movie industry’s turn yesterday to be honored by the Malacañang concert series that seeks to recognize the contributions of key sectors while promoting Filipino culture and talent.

Workers of the film industry are used to entertaining their audiences, but this time they were spectators who were treated with musical performances during the fifth installation of the Konsyerto sa Palasyo (KSP), which carried the theme “Para sa Pelikulang Pilipino,” at the Kalayaan Hall grounds.

The concert, an initiative of the Office of the President and Radio-Television Malacañang, put the spotlight on the important role of the movie industry in the country’s arts and culture.

President Marcos and other key officials attended the show, which coincided with the eve of the start of traditional Simbang Gabi or dawn masses, a unique practice of Filipinos during the yuletide season.

Movie industry stakeholders were serenaded by performances from Dane Mercado, Molly Langley, Jon Joven, Gian Magdangal and the Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild. The highlight of the concert was a special number by actress and singer Zsa Zsa Padilla.

“That is our job and therefore, there should be no let up to show what really happened insofar as the confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was still the secretary,” Acop said.

"We are still monitoring the illegal presence of the [People's Liberation Army] Navy, Coast Guard, and the maritime militia. But our reporting on them will be on a monthly basis to give us a longer duration to look at trends, and to assess on a longer period of time," Trinidad said in a press conference on Tuesday, October 22.

Prominent personalities who were invited to the event include Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Senate President Francis Escudero, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez, officials and guests from the Manila International Film Festival and Film Development Council of the Philippines, lawmakers and Cabinet members.
